Because of the fantastic opportunity Meanwhile Space are interested in proposals to use the space from businesses offering some community giveback to the area. We will ask for examples for this in your application.

“Work Free at the Library Lab ”

The Work Free creche will be open within the Library Lab from 9-5, Monday to Friday – come and leave your children in our capable hands whilst you get some some work done! It is free of charge, and you must stay within the building. Organisations in Willesden Green can apply for up to £1000 match funding for community focused projects that fit in with one of the following criteria.

• To help Willesden Green become a place to enjoy diverse, new and interesting activities and create attractions that enhance pride
• Make people better informed about services and activities in the area
• Encourage young people to have an active, engaged and positive relationship with Willesden Green
• Support the creation and development of a Town Team that truly represents all local stakeholders
• Foster green and environmental projects and improve the environment, visual appeal and healthfulness of Willesden Green

Queens Parade – on the corner of Walm Lane and Willesden Lane – is now officially open for business, so do come along to see some of the fantastic products and services on offer in this new destination in Willesden Green!

There’s an art gallery, handmade crafts, natural bath & beauty products, vintage fashion & photography, website design & business branding, product design, interior design, screen printing, a natural juice bar and an events space. So a little bit of something for everyone.

We will be celebrating the official launch of Queens Parade at the property on Thursday 29 March from 5.30-9pm, with a welcome speech at 6.45pm. Please do come along to see what will be on offer in the coming weeks and the fresh, new look the building’s facade is being given by designer, Kieren Jones.

At Queens Parade you will be able to buy a range of fantastic hand-crafted, up cycled goods and much more. You will also be able to take part in a series of events and creative workshops, which will include a programme of activities over the Spring holidays, so keep an eye on this website or pop into Queens Parade to find out more.

The most suitable proposals came in to present their ideas to us this week and we’ll soon be announcing the selection of new tenants due to move into the building on March 5th! They will only be in the building for three months initially, so will have to get moving quickly to let everyone know what they’re doing or selling and what activities will be available for the local community within the building. Watch this space for more details!

Also, the Pilot Shop is no longer ours. We’re happy to say that the work the project did to reactivate the formerly empty shop has made it a more attractive proposition and a commercial tenant has come forward to take on the lease. It will be open for business some time in March.

We’re now launching the project’s second phase, focussing on the reactivation of empty shops along the same stretch of the high street. We’re looking for proposals from suitable businesses, projects or individuals who are interested in taking up short-term leases on vacant units as and when they become available to the project.

So, if you’re a designer-maker in need of some work space, an organisation from Brent wanting a local base, a start-up business needing a helping hand, or a creative project wishing to engage with the public, then we’d love to hear from you.

Also, from February to July, we’ll be offering a series of free events hosted by Architecture 00:/ at the new Library Lab in Willesden Green Library Centre, so if you want to enhance your skills base or need help becoming self-employed, keep an eye on the website for details.

Don’t let the snow put you off taking part in our hands on workshops, from gingerbread decorating, cake stand making to giant christmas card stencilling.

We also have a tour of the windows with Editor of Designo, Johanna Agermann Ross when she will be talking to her pick of the designers that have taken part. We have a historical tour of Willesden and also a workshop with the New Economics Foundation asking you to reimagine your High Street.
